Hot Off the Presses

Leo appeared in our town's paper this week.

The headline is "What do [Leo's school] students want to be when they grow up?

The other kids responses? "Teacher, singer, football player, cardiologist..."

Snore. Come on kids! Aim higher! Batman all the way!

This reminds me a little of the first time I was published in our local paper (I wrote an article, a little different but still the same in that MY name was in print). My mom bought ten copies of that paper. I have no idea what she was going to do with ten copies of the paper (and I'm pretty sure she didn't either) but this morning, I got it. I wanted to do the same thing.

Leo's Name in Lights

I mentioned back in June Leo had a photo shoot for a magazine. Well the issue is out and he's in it! If you're interested, check out the online version here. This was right before we chopped off the beloved bowl hair cut. He looks so much younger to me! I'm still on a desperate search for the adorable suede shoes he got to wear at the shoot. They were Stride Rite and they were c-u-t-e. It's hard to find cute boy shoes, not to mention when you have triple E-double-wides like Leo!

Shout Out to Babytalk

I realized in my comment about Babytalk magazine that I forgot to mention that this publication did something great last year which was feature a baby with Down syndrome on the cover, along with this article about having a baby with DS. Boy could I have used that issue back in the fall of 2004 when I was suffering from the Only One Syndrome (I'm the only one that has a kid with DS).

Coincidentally (I happen to think it was absolutely not a coincidence, actually) Leo was featured in Babytalk, back in 2006 (again, I have a connection). It was not a story about Down syndrome, Leo was just modeling some musical toys. He had a blast (what can I say, he has been a ham from the start). I like to think that it was his charm and charisma that got the editors to think about doing something a bit more substantial about DS. And what do you know, a year later, they did.
